July 28th is World Hepatitis Day!

In recognition of July 28th being World Hepatitis Day, we here at SMC thought it might be a good idea to help everyone around the globe have a deeper understanding of hepatitis, so please read on if you would like to learn more.

In 2010, the World Health Organization (WHO) designated July 28th as World Hepatitis Day with the aim of preventing the spread of viral hepatitis, eliminating discrimination and prejudice for those who are infected, and promoting the prevention of infection at a global level. In order to achieve this goal, WHO advocated for the implementation of educational activities related to hepatitis and other associated topics.

The focus of World Hepatitis Day is specifically on viral hepatitis.

More than 95% of hepatitis-related deaths are caused by hepatitis B, C, and D viruses. World Hepatitis Day stresses the importance of getting regular checkups, specifically checkups that also provide insight into the health of your own liver, as well as preventive steps and treatments for viral hepatitis.

While this days is specifically about viral hepatitis, it is also important that steps towards preventing and curing non-viral hepatitis are also taken.

Here at SMC, we conduct drug efficacy studies using our original STAM™ model in order to eradicate non-viral non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), as well as the often resulting liver cancer. As of yet, there are no breakthrough prevention or treatment methods for NASH that exist, while at the same time it is estimated that the number of NASH patients will surpass the number of people afflicted with viral hepatitis in the near future. With that in mind, we want to support your research to help you develop new ways to prevent and treat viral hepatitis, as well as NASH.

If you would like to learn more about how we can help you develop your compound, please feel free to reach out and get in touch with us!

We hope you that are able to take some time this July 28th to consider what you can do to help those effected by viral hepatitis, and other life threatening liver diseases.
