  • NEWS RELEASE

World Cancer Day was established on February 4th, 2000, at the World Summit Against Cancer for the New Millennium in Paris initiated by UICC (Union for International Cancer Control).

It is a day where people all around the world come together and join in the fight against cancer by raising public awareness of the disease.

As the number of cancer patients and deaths worldwide continues to increase, now, more than ever, events like World Cancer Day that spread awareness on how to prevent and receive proper treatment for cancer, are of great importance.

Among the many types of cancer, liver cancer is the 3rd leading cause of death among cancer patients worldwide.

As you may already be aware, it has been reported that the number of deaths due to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH)-related liver cancer has been increasing rapidly.

Along with this, as there is currently no way to prevent or treat NASH, the number of both patients diagnosed with NASH, as well as the number of patients diagnosed with NASH-induced liver cancer, are also expected to rise.

Therefore, it is of the utmost importance that basic research be conducted to discover a treatment that can reduce the incident rate of NASH-derived liver cancer.

Our proprietary STAM™ model is the world's first NASH-liver cancer model that spontaneously develops liver cancer.

In this model, tumors begin to develop starting at 16 weeks of age, and by 20 weeks of age, 100% of the mice will have developed liver cancer.

Our STAM™ model has been used in over 30 different HCC targeting studies, both therapeutic and preventive, and has been featured in more than 15 publications and presentations.

In one of these studies, our client conducted a therapeutic HCC targeting study using the STAMTM model and reported that their compound exhibited an anti-cancer effect (Okrah et al. NPJ Precision Oncology, 2018).

Would you like to use the STAM™ model to develop your NASH-derived liver cancer therapy?
